No more ventilator. 

2 weeks

Two weeks old. Henry has gained one ounce, which is probably just water, ha! He weighs 2 pounds and 10 ounces. Not too much to brag about.





A few changes:

1. Weaning the milrinone and fentanyl.
2. Off the nitric oxide.
3. Increasing feeds.
4. Starting to TALK about extubating.
5. Has not been on 100% oxygen for 48 hours.
6. Today was the last day for the vancomycin, gentamicin, and zosyn.

There will be a heart ECHO tomorrow to check the function since we haved turned down the milrinone and stopped the inhaled nitric oxide.

We are happy with the improvements.

slow news day

Well, I guess it’s good to have not too much to report. 

Hank is pretty stable where he’s at right now.  He really likes his giraffe bed, and we like it too since it will help him grow faster. 

He moved from the loud, busy room to a quiet room and seems to like that better. 

His FiO2 was in the range of 33 to 59.  Good for Hank.  His nitric oxide is almost off and he is doing well with that. 

It is sure fun to watch him try to open his eyes.  He uses every muscle in his forehead.  What a funny kid.

Look at Drew!  He went to the Children’s Museum with his dad and got to play in a helicopter. 

What a fun time until he learned he had to share it, and had a meltdown. 

Hank is still doing really well.  His nitric oxide is being weaned, and he is doing really well with that.  His oxygen needs (FiO2) is still up and down, but not 100%. 

He graduated to a new bed!

This is a “Giraffe” Bed.  It keeps him warm and keeps the noise out, since Hank is in the busy, loud room.  The top comes off in case they have to access him quick. 

He is also started on trophic feeds, which means that he is getting tiny amounts of food through his feeding tube.  This is done to “prime” the gut, or allow the gut to start working, build up normal GI bacteria, and see what he can tolerate as far as feeds good.  He has done well on that, so far. 

We are still weaning the milrinone and have started weaning the fentanyl drip.  He is starting to wake up.

Lots of improvement today. Hopefully, we keep moving in this direction!

Weight today: 1291 grams
Starting weight: 1150 grams
Weight change: 0.3 pounds (not much -- probably mostly fluid)

Oxygen requirements have been way down, in the 30 to 40% range. Way to go Hank!

Heart ECHO shows increased right ventricular function (meaning it's contracting much better). Probably get to wean the nitric oxide soon. Another plus.

Dopamine off!

Milrinone turned down.

Inflammatory/septic process resolving. Stopping antibiotics in 4 days.

Fluid coming off with lasix.

Happy for the improvements. We started off rough, so it's nice to see how far we've come in 10 days.
