dye

I’m sure all of you have made tie dye shirts before, but I have never done it.  My sister Lori thought we could do it this cabin trip.  Seriously, what a fun project…and all of our stuff turned out.  Yay for trying new things, even if you do dye your hands purple.

If you haven’t done this before people, do it!

happy hike day

I guess I should say happy birthday to Steve.  It’s his 35th birthday today.  We celebrated by having a birthday party in the evening.  We also went on a hike this morning.  Lori and Nate invited us, and after some coaxing, we decided we could go and take Hank along too.  I was a bit nervous, but he did great.  I guess next time, I will only haul one oxygen tank and not three.  Thanks Dad and Steve for carrying them for me.

We did the Whit’s Lake trail.  I haven’t hiked that for years, and I have to admit, it’s because I am scared of bears.  Well, we did not get attacked by bears, or even see any, whew. (we were a loud crew between the younger kids howling like wolves and Hank crying every time they did).

Everyone went along, minus Grandma who had to work on a report at the cabin.

Such a pretty hike.  There are so many wildflowers, wild strawberries and raspberries, and just wildlife.

No, the muppets (thanks Brian) don’t count as wildlife.  I just liked Bert’s tongue in  this picture.

We made it to the lower lake and it was nice and quiet.

And yes, this is bear country, so watch out!

IMG_3196

I told you we didn’t see any bears, but we did see some bear tracks along the bank of the lake, but they looked old.  They are hard to see in the pictures.  Can you see them?

Since the kids were doing good and everyone was happy, we continued on to the upper lake.  It’s not too much further, but it does have some steep areas.

And we made it!  We stopped and ate a snack and explored a little bit.

We did see some osprey guarding their nest.

This is about how the way down went for Drew.  He didn’t want to walk, and he especially didn’t want to walk in the horse poop.

Thanks for inviting us to go Lori and Nate.  We had fun.  We will have to go more often.

wolves, and bears, and slides

We took all the kids to the Grizzly and Wolf Discovery Center in West Yellowstone.  It was fun to see the wolves.  I don’t think I have ever seen them that active.  They were howling and running around.  Cool to see.  We watched the bears for a second, but the kids were way more excited to go play on the playground, so we did.  Hank had his first trip down a slippery slide “alone.”  He did okay, but seemed to think it was okay.  Drew was a good sport even though he was on his second day of full body hives and on tons of benadryl (pretty sure he had a virus – he had a fever that night).

hats

I finally finished a project I was going to make for Drew way before Hank was even born.  So, I made two, one for each.

Hat racks for the boys rooms.

I even got to use wood leftover from the cabin floor.  I think they will work great.

to do

What to do when you are at the cabin in Montana?  Here’s what we did today.

#1:  Canoeing and kayaking on the smooth lake.  Olivia can kayak all by herself.

IMG_2743IMG_2755IMG_2765

#2:  Piano lessons from Olivia.  These two girls are so great to let Drew play with them all the time.

IMG_2773IMG_2778

#3:  A nap here and there (Though, you can’t blame him, he just got home from Scotland a couple days ago)

IMG_2782

#4:  Sandbox play and rock eating.  Fun fun fun.

IMG_2797IMG_2800IMG_2811

#5:  Snuggles with mom  (twinners)

IMG_2843

#6:  Getting coated in dirt and who knows what else?

IMG_2846IMG_2856IMG_2855

#7:  Vacationing.

family

We went to Steve’s family reunion last weekend.  Here it is documented (partially) in pictures.
